Oil industry supports Norlense project
The Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO) has decided to support the Norlense project "New Boom 2008" with an amount of up to NOK 2 million. "The project can help develop better oil spill response technology," says Managing Director Sjur W. Knudsen in NOFO.
Norlense has delivered various types of oil spill response equipment to the oil industry for many years, and the company is recognised as an important part of the Norwegian industry in this area.
Norwegian industry is wanted
Norlense's project is part of the Research Council of Norway's project portfolio within the PETROMAKS program. In addition to public funding, the project is also seeking support from other players. NOFO's contribution is a direct response to this.
"It is important that we have Norwegian companies that can supply equipment solutions that fit the Norwegian oil spill preparedness system. Equipment that can handle Norwegian conditions should also have an interesting potential for export," says Knudsen.
Developing new technology
Through NOFO, the oil industry has started a comprehensive technology development program called Oil Spill Response 2010. The development program is being run on behalf of the operating companies on the Norwegian Shelf, in cooperation with the Norwegian Coastal Administration.
"As a starting point, we will spend up to NOK 40 million on direct financial support to projects in connection with the program. In addition, we will devote considerable resources to follow-up, testing and commissioning in connection with the projects," says Knudsen.
