Establishment of an IT platform for information sharing in real time
IBM's Reference Semantic Model (RSM) used in StatoilHydro’s Tail IO project, has been included in PCA's oil and gas ontology and this part of the ontology is now in the process of becoming an ISO standard.
This means that the platform for information sharing in real time required to fully implement Integrated Operations (IO) now has been established.
OLF presented a report in 2007 stating that the economical potential of Integrated Operations (IO) on the Norwegian Shelf is NOK 300 billions. The implementation of IO technologies was expected to take place in a period of 10 years and was separated into two separate phases Generation 1 and Generation 2.
IO Generation 1 covered the period 2005-2010 with focus on integration of the organizations offshore and onshore through operation centres. Most operators have completed this activity already.
IO Generation 2 covered the period 2010-2015 with focus on information sharing in real time between the operator and its suppliers and heavy automation of offshore and onshore work processes.
To provide an open IT platform for IO Generation 2, OLF has initiated several projects to develop IT architecture and oil and gas ontology (terminology) for the E&P sector based on ISO and W3C standards. OLF has worked closely with PCA to develop the oil and gas ontology.
The Joint Industry Project "IO in the High North” (IOHN) will extend the oil and gas ontology to new business activities in E&P and to complete the open IT architecture for IO Generation 2.
Pilots based on the ontology and IBM's Reference Semantic Model (RSM) platform will be developed in the near future inside and outside the JIP IOHN. IBM is one of the main sponsors of the IOHN, and a key contributor to the development of the IT architecture.
